Biography

Alain Gauthier (Ph.D.) is an Full Professor with the School of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at Laurentian University. He received his doctoral and undergraduate degrees from Laurentian University, and his master's degree from the University of Ottawa. Dr. Gauthier is primarily interested in research related to the health of sociolinguistic minorities, with a particular emphasis on rural and northern areas.

Research

Dr. Gauthier’s research interests include health promotion and health services research. He currently leads the Francophone Health research program at CRaNHR related to the access to, and quality of, French Language Health Services for persons residing in northern Ontario. The primary objective of this program of research is to better understand the services provided by family physicians for Francophones in the north. Furthermore, this research team is working closely with several community partners to develop strategies to better serve Francophones in the region. Dr. Gauthier is also a Public Health Consultant to the Public Health Sudbury & Districts and has interests in healthy living research.
